Career starters

11 August 2015
As your career partner, we’ll support, empower and inspire you during your studies and throughout your HR or L&D career. When joining the CIPD we have options to suit your professional needs. Read about Student and Associate membership below.
You can become a Student member if you are thinking of or are already studying a CIPD-approved qualification.

Student membership enables you to gain access to a wide variety of knowledge from journals to research reports as well as peer to peer networks and communities. This wider knowledge will support you with your studies and help you to understand real world approaches to HR and L&D topics. Through Student membership you are able to build networks, both face to face and online, with other students and HR practitioners across the globe. This will both support you with your studies but also help you develop the skills you need to become well rounded and get that first job. As well as showing your commitment to developing your career to employers, it's also a route through to professional membership

Once you have successfully completed your studies, you will be automatically upgraded to Associate member. This is the first level of professional CIPD membership and entitles you to use the letters Assoc CIPD after your name, demonstrating to employers, clients and peers that you've attained a recognised level of professional competence as an HR or L&D professional. It shows that you are committed to developing your expertise and are compliant with an ethical Code of Professional Conduct.

If you don't want to complete a CIPD qualification but are looking to accredit your HR and L&D expertise against our industry standards, Experience Assessment offers you a direct route into Associate membership. It's ideal for experienced HR professionals.

Membership of the CIPD sets you apart from other HR and L&D professionals. It demonstrates the knowledge, experience and relevance you bring to employers and clients.

Highly valued by employers, it shows your ability to create an impact in the workplace and gives you that competitive edge in the job market. As you develop your HR expertise, professional membership opens doors to new career opportunities and enhances your earning potential.

Membership gives you access to expert and trusted resources and networks which will help you build your knowledge and stay up to date with the fast-changing world of work.
