We’re an independent and not-for-profit organisation and hold a highly respected Royal Charter. As the professional body for HR and people development, we exist to make work and working lives better. And at a time of unprecedented change we have the vision, agility and strength to make a real difference to our members, to businesses, to the economy and to all working people.
Through our expertise and research we provide a valuable point of view on the rapidly changing world of work. And for our members we’re the career partner of choice, setting professional standards and providing the know-how to drive the HR and L&D professions forward.

Advancing the HR and L&D profession in the Middle East

As Middle East economies shift from an almost total reliance on oil and gas to a sustainable future as knowledge economies, governments and employers across the region recognise the valuable role HR can and must play. In this context, our potential to make a difference to work and working lives couldn’t be greater.
For a number of years, we’ve been helping employers across the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) to up-skill and professionalise their HR teams to help them navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We already have more than 2,000 members operating in the region, and we’re increasing our presence on the ground to support them with a range of networks, communities and events devoted to shaping the future of HR and the world of work.
Our purpose is to champion better work and working lives by improving practices in people and organisation development for the benefit of individuals, businesses, economies and society.
In other words, we’re committed to finding the sweet spot between the construct of work itself and people’s experience at work (their working lives), to create a win-win situation for everyone. We believe that good people management and development is not only good for individuals, but it's also crucial to the success of businesses and economies, which in turn can benefit people and society. Looking after the interests and wellbeing of employees is a good place to start. But to create maximum value for everyone concerned, we must also ensure that work itself is well defined and managed (in terms of what work is, where it’s done, how it’s done and who does it).
Our vision is to define and represent the international benchmark for excellence in people and organisation management and development.
We’ll achieve our vision through our mission to advance knowledge and understanding of the world of work, workforce and workplace in order to encourage and support people and organisations to be the best they can be.
As a trusted and respected partner with a clear voice, at the heart of a growing and vibrant community, we will set the standard for professionalism by:
  • leading the debate on issues of ethics, principles, values and behaviours
  • promoting and developing the professions of HR and people development
  • inspiring member engagement
  • advising policy-makers and regulators.
